The video game industry has seen a massive influx of job openings over the last year.
However, many of those job opportunities are not necessarily as well suited for young people.
According to the National Youth Job Center, just 3.5 percent of jobseekers under the age of 25 have jobs in 2016.
Meanwhile, that number is expected to rise to 7.2 percent by 2022.
To better understand why young people are not getting jobs, we spoke to industry veteran and former VP of Talent Relations at EA EA, Matt VanDyke, about why he thinks the video game market needs to diversify.
“I think there’s a lot of young talent out there,” VanDyd, who’s now a vice president of talent at EA’s EA Talent, told MTV News.
A new era of diversityAs VanDynk explained, there’s more opportunity for young creatives to get their foot in the door of the video gaming industry. “
It’s really hard for a lot, and if we can get them to come in and get some experience so they can get some advice and help them on what they should be doing, then I think that’s a really good thing.”

“There’s a new era in terms of diversity in terms with the tech and video game culture,” he said.
“The more diverse the game is, the better it’s going to be for people.”
As for why young creativists are not finding jobs in the industry, VanDdyke believes it’s because of cultural barriers.
“People don’t really like the idea of someone coming in and just doing the same thing,” he explained.
“And that’s the only way they’re really going to find it, is if they’re just going to do the same game and play it over and over.”
For the most part, young creative talent is also looking to pursue careers in different areas, according to VanDyne. “
So if you’re in a different industry, you’re not gonna get it.”

“You’re just trying to figure out if it’s something you can actually get a foothold in,” he added.
“Or if you want to do something creative and get your foot in to the door.”
