Salesforce is being asked to create a tool to help companies manage and deal with attacks that target their networks.
The company is also looking for ways to help IT staff in other ways, the companies said.
They said that their work on a tool for companies to manage and protect their networks is ongoing.
The companies said that security incidents have become more common over the past year and that in addition to their work with Salesforce, they also worked with IBM, Oracle, Dell, Hewlett-Packard and Microsoft.
They have a long list of customers that rely on Salesforce and that it has helped their organizations with some of their IT security challenges, including the discovery of security vulnerabilities, said Rob Pardo, a senior vice president of software at the companies.
“We are looking to accelerate the process of helping companies in these ways,” he said.
A new tool to deal with these types of attacks could help with some security risks, said David Wylie, a former security researcher for the cybersecurity firm ESET.
For example, a breach in the database of one of the world’s largest online shopping sites could leave the site’s users vulnerable to attacks such as SQL injection, which allows hackers to steal data from a database server.
In addition, companies may want to use other tools in the security tools suite, such as the FireEye software suite or Cisco’s FireEye-enabled solutions, to help them secure their networks, he said, adding that such tools can also help with other security issues.
It could also help companies to detect potential breaches that may have been triggered by a spam campaign, Pardo said.
Companies could also want to make sure they have an existing and strong security system in place, said Matthew Brown, a security researcher at cybersecurity firm Recorded Future.
Companies could look to use the tools for other reasons, such in cases when they have to use software they have not purchased or that is not compatible with their current security architecture, Brown said.
“A lot of companies are going to have to do a lot of research on what tools are out there and whether they have the appropriate tools in place,” he told CBC News.
Salesforce did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
